Volcanic warmth and mountain freshness, the Aeolian Islands in a bottle

Traditionally produced from a blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, Etna Rosso Ottava Isola is the Aeolian Islands in a nutshell: volcanic warmth and freshness, sea and mountains, sun and snow.
Ruby red in colour with garnet-coloured highlights, like the lava and magma expelled from the volcano that makes the earth so fertile, Etna Rosso Ottava Isola is an extremely vibrant wine.
It has an intense aroma with hints of vanilla, ripe fruit and tobacco; its flavour is elegant, harmonious, lingering and tannic to just the right degree.

The eighth wonder: Etna

Etna Rosso Ottava Isola born at 750 meters above sea level, on the northern slope of Etna, where their work is crowned in the expression of pure millennial tradition.

L’Ottava Isola is sun and snow, volcanic heat and freshness of altitude, from soils that magma and lava constantly make fertile and rich in minerals.

Wine full of vitality with an intense aroma and nuances of vanilla, ripe fruit and tobacco, with an elegant and harmonious taste.

THE CHARACTERISTICS:

Producution area: Passopisciaro (c.da Feudo di Mezzo), Northern slope of Mt. Etna

Climate: Mediterranean climate with strong mountain influence, characterized by important temperature variations between day and night.

Vinification: Alcoholic spontaneous fermentation without temperature control with long maceration on the skins and on whole bunch. Subsequently, the wine is racked off and decanted into new French oak barrels for the malolactic fermentation. About a year later it is poured into a steel tank. No clarification, but just static decanting before bottling.

Aging: 12 months in oak barrels and 12 months in bottle.

Soil: Sandy, volcanic and rich in minerals.

Nose: This Etna Rosso Ottava Isola from Castellaro presents typical aromas of red fruit, undergrowth, dried flowers with nuances of tobacco and licorice.

Taste: Great balance, where the volcanic structure merge with the elegance of the varieties and allows the wine to have a great minerality and an organoleptic complexity.

Food Pairing: First courses prepared with ragù sauce, roasted meat, game and aged cheeses
