Sangiovese is one of the most important Italian grape varieties, the most cultivated in Italy. The Sangiovese grape variety comes in two distinct types: The Sangiovese Grosso, corresponding to some biotypes cultivated in Tuscany, including Brunello and Prugnolo Gentile and Sangiovese Piccolo, to which most varieties in Tuscany and Emilia Romagna belong, including the Morellino grown in the Scansano area. Sangiovese significantly changes its expressive features with changing climates and altitude at which it is grown.
