It is the oldest native red grape variety in Piedmont, one of the noblest and most precious of Italy. And it is certainly the most valuable and difficult black berry grape among Italians. Nebbiolo production excels in the areas around Barolo and Barbaresco (Piedmont) and in Valtellina (Lombardy). Elsewhere it no longer has that thickness, strength and “nobility” that make it unique in the world. The grape gives rise to strong, very alcoholic wines that often express most of their characteristics as a result of a slow aging.
