Marco Carpineti

Marco Carpineti in town…

It is in the ancient city of Cori, in Lazio region where Marco and his son Paolo are hardly working bringing success to their estate and their wines. Since they turned organic (in 1994) they do not use herbicides, chemical fertilizers or synthetic products and nowadays they are also practicing biodynamic agricultural techniques. These are based on the idea of the equilibrium of ecosystem: nature in unison with the landscape, the rhythm of the earth and the humanity. In order to obtain a fertile and vital soil they only use natural methods like bone meal (mixture of finely and coarsely ground animal bones) and slaughterhouse waste products and quartz horn (burying ground quartz stuffed into the horn of a cow). To respect the environment even better, in nearly all the estate they only do weeds control with mowing without tilling the soil in other way.

Their winning bet is focused on some unknown vines, which only this territory has kept as a hidden treasure. White grape varieties that have always been cultivated are the Bellone, the Arciprete Bianco (Bellone biotype) and two varieties of Greek grapes, locally called Moro and Giallo, almost disappeared in the territory. Red grape varieties are the Nero Buono di Cori, Montepulciano and Cesanese. Cared by dedicated professionals, their vineyards are planted at 400m a.s.l. on a volcanic soil which is specially suitable to the cultivation of vines and olive trees and it is rich in fossils, in particular tuff and, in the highest part, limestone.

Their Kius Millesimato is a sparkling wine classic method produced entirely by Bellone’s grapes. It is proof of how passion and perseverance, coupled with a bit of unconsciousness, can lead to almost unexpected results. The yeasts, for at least twenty-four months, laboriously sculpt and define this unique and fascinating sparkling wine.

Marco and Paolo will be visiting some of our Irish customer during the second week of October.

We will also organize a wine dinner with them with a fantastic 5 menu courses combined with 5 of their wines. Can’t tell you too much more….you’ll get updated very soon!
